Phu Quoc Herping Tour: An Unforgettable Night in the Wild
On December 9th, 2025, we headed to the north of Phu Quoc for an evening herping tour with Nicky and her husband from the UK. As first-time herpers looking for a unique adventure, they were eager to experience the sights and sounds of the jungle after dark.
Despite being the start of the dry season—a time when amphibians are typically harder to find—the jungle did not disappoint. We successfully spotted four different snake species: a Green Viper, a Slug Snake, a Malayan Banded Krait, and a Vine Snake. A highlight of the night was finding a Collared Scops Owl perched perfectly still, allowing us to capture some incredible close-up photos. We also encountered a stunningly large butterfly and, though the elusive Slow Loris stayed hidden this time, the night was a resounding success.
