As tourism grows, social media makes the waterfall attractive for locals who go here for camping, picnic, and swimming. They bring charcoal, raw food, and drinks here to cook. After enjoying themselves, they leave everything behind. They thought that there would be cleaning service since they paid the entrance fee. In fact, the owner who owns the gate and packing spot is the one who is responsible to clean up the area, however they don’t clean often and they don’t even bring the trash out, they just bring trash back deep in the forest. As a result, when the rainy season comes, the water rises high. Garbage is washed downstream by water and stuck on tree tops. The scene is like something out of a horror movie.
What we should do?
What can be changed? nothing will be changed in one night. It takes a long time, generations to understand the importance of nature.
When I go to visit Suoi Tien, I always bring a bag with me to clean a little bit. I know it doesn’t seem to change much. But I am happy with things I do. I hope everyone who visits the waterfall should respect Nature. As with any natural site, it’s important to respect the environment.
